More for the money fabrics -
You can get a lot of “yardage” from these fabrics because of their exceptional widths -
Sheers are cut from bolts that are 118″ wide, tulle comes 54″ and 108″ wide, nylon net and felt are both 72″ wide and nylon is 60″ wide. Inexpensive cheesecloth, muslin and gauze are also available in oversized widths at large fabric stores.
Bed sheets give you a lot of fabric. You can mix and match the colors and patterns you find or make your own creative patterns on the sheets using fabric or acrylic paint or by going Tie-Dye.
And check that thrift shop again … old drapes, tablecloths, dresses, wedding and prom gowns, leather coats and old furs all inspire magnificent creative projects. ( If you find one of those old fashion chenille bedspreads with the colored design in the center, don’t let it slip away. I’ve been looking for one of those forever!

You really know your stuff
If I stumble across “old fashion chenille bedspreads with the colored design in the center” I’ll give you a holler. I’ve just found a fabric store a couple blocks down the street that is literally littered with fabrics!
Great post. I am a huge fan of sewing with sheets and unwanted/outgrown clothing. Nothing in our house is safe from me and my needles and thread. lol.
