One way to pursue good luck is to wear an ojo necklace. The one pictured above has three eyes. To make it, you will need six skeins of size 3 pearl cotton—two purple, one lavender, one red, one orange, and one flesh-color; 3/4 yard of round elastic cord; 21 1/2 inches of 1/4-inch plastic tubing (or any flexible tubing with a large enough opening to accommodate the elastic cord); 5 inches of 1/8-inch plastic tubing; six 1/8-inch wood dowels, three 4 inches long and three 3 1/2 inches long; and white glue.
Notch all the dowels at the midpoint. Glue the 3 1/2-inch dowels to the 4-inch dowels at right angles, holding them with wire until the glue dries. Beginning with red yarn, double-wrap the three small ojos. Make an eye that measures 1 inch across on each. Knot the yarn, clip and glue it to the dowel.
To complete the eye, wind four rounds of orange yarn, three of flesh-color, two of lavender, and three of purple.
To make the circular neckpiece, put a thin line of glue on one side of the 1/4-inch plastic tubing. Tie the purple yarn around one end of the tubing and wind around the tubing until it is covered. End with a slip knot, and glue it in place. Put the elastic cord through the tubing, and tie the ends with a small knot, thus forming a circle. When the ends of tubing are pulled apart, the elastic stretches so the necklace fits over the head.
To complete the medallion, cut the 1/8-inch plastic tubing into three 1 1/2-inch
pieces and one 1/2-inch piece. Arrange the three ojos as shown above with the 4-inch dowels horizontal and the 3 1/2-inch dowels vertical. Slip one 1 1/2-inch tube onto the bottom dowel arms of each of the two end ojos. Bend the tubes, and slip the other end onto the horizontal arms of the center ojo. Slip one 1 1/2-inch tube on the inner side arms of the end ojos, and the 1/2-inch tube on the top arm of the center ojo.
Cut a small hole in the horizontal tubing, and put glue on the 1/2-inch tube and push it into the hole. Wrap all plastic tubing with purple yarn. Clip and glue all yarn ends except on the far right, far left, and bottom dowel arms. Leave a 3-inch length of purple yarn at these points where pompons will be added. Let the glue dry. Make three orange and red pompons, using a piece of cardboard 1 1/2 inches wide. Using the purple yarn, tie the pompons in place.
To attach the ojo medallion to the neckpiece, measure 2 inches on either side of the center of the neck tubing and mark these points. Moving the purple yarn aside slightly, cut small holes in the tubing at these points with the craft knife. Make the holes smaller than the 1/8-inch diameter of the dowel ends. Put glue on the dowel ends, and push them into the holes. Wrap purple yarn around these intersections to hide the joints and to help hold them together. Spread glue on the back, and let it dry before wearing.

This is such a cool idea. What tribe does this originate from?
Hello, was just looking on your website and decided to add the RSS feed, however it isn’t working with my browser (I am looking at it using Safari) any specific way to bypass that?
